Disability insurance policies are designed to pay part of your wages should you be injured in an accident or are unable to work because of illness. Here are two types of policies available: long-term disability and short-term disability.

Short term disability pays a portion of your wages should you be out of work due to injury for up to one year. Some employers pay for this benefit for their employees, some offer it for employees to purchase.

If you have a pre-existing medical condition, the time to enroll is during the initial enrollment period when a medical exam is not required.

Replacement of wages is only partial; insurance underwriters, as well as your employer, want you back at work as soon as possible. Usually there is a waiting period of 14 days in which you will not receive payment.

Long term disability policies are purchased to replace what your potential earnings would be from the time you become disabled until age 65 when Medicare would be available.

For instance, if you are 55 and make £40,000 per year, you should purchase a policy for £400,000.

You cannot get a long term disability policy if

(1) you are or are soon to be pregnant,

(2) make less than £18,000 per year,

(3) are unemployed, or

(4) you are required to carry a weapon for your job.

Typically, the waiting period for long-term insurance to kick is at least 60 days and as much as a year.

Disability insurance is an important aspect of your overall insurance coverage plan, and if your employer offers it as a benefit you should definitely consider it as a wise investment.

Are you one of the one in twenty motorists who regularly drive without insurance? You'd better watch out - your car could be heading for the crusher and shipped off to the world's biggest scrap smelter in China!

New powers now allow the police to seize, impound and crush any car found on the road without insurance. A pilot scheme was introduced in Durham last spring. Since then, police have impounded more than 1,200 cars. Of those around half have been crushed into cubes and packed off for smelting.

Operation Takeaway as the pilot scheme was known, has been such a big success, that police forces throughout the UK are enthusiastically polishing up their tow trucks. The scheme is now supported by a new national police database that's supported by the insurance industry. It enables the police to check the insurance status of every car in the UK whilst they're sitting in their patrol car.

Now if you're caught red handed without car insurance you're forced to hand your keys to the police at the roadside. There are no exceptions - this applies to everyone; it doesn't matter if it's just a forgetful mistake or conscious driving without insurance.

Then you'll have to get your skates on! You've just 14 days to produce a valid insurance policy to the police and collect your car. And other costs mount up. Before you can collect your car, you have to pay the cost of kerbside recovery (around £105) and the cost of secure storage - and that could easily amount to £15 a day. So, if you leave collecting your car to the 14th day, you could be in for a bill for £315.

And if you don't reclaim your car, off to the crusher it goes!

During the pilot scheme, the cost of crushing the cars was partly funded by Direct Line. They have estimated that Operation Takeaway prevented up to 2,000 accidents. And many of the cars impounded by the police were found to be un-roadworthy.

A police spokesman said, “ Uninsured drivers are often guilty of many other offenses. Such as having neither driving license nor MOT certificate. We are doing everything in our power to get these dangerous and illegal drivers off our roads”.

Indeed, uninsured drivers are much greater problem than many of us would expect. The Department of Transport recently reported that 1 in 20 motorists regularly drive without insurance. Furthermore, research from the Association of British Insurers discovered that uninsured drivers are amongst the most dangerous on the roads. On average they cause one accident every six months and are three times more likely to be convicted of driving without due care and attention.

And who pays for those uninsured accidents? We do! The average car insurance premium is loaded by £30 to cover the cost of damage caused by uninsured motorists. Across the UK that adds up to an extra £500 million paid out each year by the law-abiding motorists!

But that's not the end of our financial pain. If an uninsured vehicle collides into your car, it's still recorded as a “fault claim” on your policy. This means you'll have to pay the excess when your car is repaired and unless you've got Claims Protection on your policy, your no-claims bonus will take a knocking. Over a two-year period, the reduction in your no claims bonus could easily cost £275 in higher premiums.

The move to take cars off the road and crush them has been warmly welcomed by the Association of British Insurers. The ABI has long criticized the leniency of punishment handed out by the courts to uninsured motorists but they still want tougher penalties. Offenders are typically fined just £150 to £200 - with time to pay - and this is much less than the average car insurance premium. Surely this cannot be true justice!

Auto insurance refers to the insurance that is common for insuring all types of vehicles against all kinds of uncertainties that may cause bodily damage to the vehicle. The sole reason behind insuring the vehicles is that it gives protection against the losses incurred due to accidents. Auto insurance is available for consumers who want to buy such insurance, to protect the life span of their vehicles and also for recovering the amount of the damage that the vehicle survives. People usually buy these insurances for all kind of automobiles like cars, trucks and other kind of vehicles, to avoid any risk. Different kinds of coverages have been started by the insurance companies, to suit the interests and the needs of the insured.

Before buying auto insurance, it is very important that the person goes for a thorough analysis of the proposals offered by different companies for such insurances. Different companies offer different quotes for the insurance of the vehicle, the consumer must look out for the best one, which suits his needs and which proves to be very economical. Many companies also give different discount schemes to attract more and more consumers. The consumer can save a good deal, while purchasing auto insurance by comparing the quotes of different companies and choosing the cheapest one which satisfies all his needs.

Quotes from different companies can be compared on the internet, for buying the best available auto insurance, it provides a wider platform to the consumer, where he can easily access and compare quotes from several companies and choose one among them. The main thing about choosing a quote is that the quote need not necessarily be cheap but the company must be an established one on which the customer zeros on.

The consumer should not only compare the quotes of different companies but also companies, their reputation and their way of service. While comparing, the consumer is more acquainted with the different kind of coverages that are available and choose among them according to the needs.

The major hullabaloo about insuring automobiles is the increasing reckless accidents that are tolling high on the records. These can only be reduced once the certainty of the accidents is reduced. The companies quote their prices for insuring depends of various factors like the age of person to whom the vehicle belongs, the location where the car is bought and supposed to be used in the area and also many other factors. The details regarding the car like its parking place, whether it has a garage because that reduces the risk of being stolen or damaged. Also the mileage of the car is a deciding factor of the quoting the price of insurance.

Disputes, especially when it comes to settling insurance claims, are not new scenarios. In fact, they take place every day. Just what causes these disputes? Well, one of the obvious reasons is most policy holders think that they deserve to be paid a larger settlement than what they receive. Second, claims are slow to process. And third, claims are denied.

There are various ways to deal with your auto insurance company. First, is the aggressive approach, which I am not encouraging since I am a peace-loving individual, and believe that everything should be settled in a peaceful and civilized manner. There are actually several peaceful options which a policyholder may undertake depending on the degree of insurance dispute.

For cases wherein your insurance agent is unable to solve your problem, it is advised to get the name and then the phone number of your insurance company’s claims department. Afterwards, call the consumer complaint department and never hesitate to tell them your problem because they may be able to help you. And don’t forget to get the name of the person whom you talked with in the consumer complaint department.

The next step is to send all documents to the consumer complaint department to back up your complaints. Send it to the person whom you talked with in the consumer complaint department. But be sure not to send the original copies of your documents. Have your documents photocopied because you need the original copies in case you have to take the matter to court.

Another option that you have is to ask for reassessment of your claims from the appraisal service or the arbitration service of your insurance company. If the result still has not satisfied you there is always your own state’s insurance department that may be able to help you.

However, if you still feel that you have not been given a satisfying solution to your insurance problem you may call 1-800-942-4242 which is a toll free consumer information service that is sponsored by the insurance industry. They have trained personnel that are available to assist and answer queries relating to various auto insurance complaints. They are available Monday to Friday, from 8:00 am to 8:00 pm.

Nevertheless, if you still feel that after you have applied all the above-mentioned options and yet you feel that you have not been given the appropriate solution you want, you can always take the matter to court. You can hire a lawyer, preferably one who is an expert in handling auto insurance cases.

There are many qualified lawyers out there who may be able to help you. According to studies, insurance claims have a much better chance of being settled if it is done with the assistance of an auto insurance expert lawyer. This is because your auto insurance lawyer knows every miniscule detail there is to know regarding auto insurance claims. Protect your rights; hire an auto insurance lawyer to help you.

Medicare is a governmental program which provides medical insurance coverage for retired persons over age 65 or for others who meet certain medical conditions, such as having a disability.

Medicare was signed into legislation in 1965 as an amendment to the Social Security program and is
administered by the Center for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS) under the Department of Human Services.

Medicare provides medical insurance coverage for over 43 million Americans, many of whom would have no medical insurance. While not perfect, the Medicare program offers these millions of people relatively low cost basic insurance, but not much in the way of preventative care. For instance, Medicare does not pay for an annual physical, vision care or dental care.

Medicare is paid for through payroll tax deductions (FICA) equal to 2.9% of wages; the employee pays half and the employer pays half.

There are four "parts" to Medicare: Part A is hospital coverage, Part B is medical insurance, Part C is supplemental coverage and Part D is prescription insurance. Parts C and D are at an added cost and are not required. Neither Part A nor B pays 100% of medical costs; there is usually a premium, co-pay and a deductible. Some low-income people quality for Medicaid, which assists in paying part of or all of the out-of-pocket costs.

Because more people are retiring and become eligible for Medicare at a faster rate than people are paying into the system, it has been predicted that the system will run out of money by 2018. Health care costs have risen dramatically, which adds to the financial woes of Medicare and the system has bee plagued by fraud over the years.

No one seems to have a viable solution to save this system that saves many people throughout the country.

When you're searching for cheap auto insurance and getting quotes from various companies, find out what discounts are available for things like, multiple car policies, drivers education credits, defensive driving coarses completed and clean driving records. The competition in the automobile insurance industry is fierce. Some companies are willing to offer bigger discounts than others.

Finding Cheap Auto Insurance Online
Car insurance is basically insurance that drivers can purchase for any kind of vehicle in order to protect against losses sustained in traffic accidents. Auto insurance policies are, in reality, a bundle of different coverages. This insurance will usually cover the insured party, the insured motor vehicle, and any third parties involved. Different policies will identify the situations in which each of these entities is covered.

Below are the specific coverages involved when you purchase car insurance.

- Liability Insurance: Liability coverage is the most basic and foundational coverage in car insurance policies and is required in most states. This coverage ensures that if you are the one at fault in an accident, your liability insurance will pay for the physical injury and property damage expenses of any third parties involved. This coverage includes legal bills. Remember that third parties can sue you for “pain and suffering” damages. Minimum insurance may not sufficiently cover you in more extreme cases, which is why many people recommend that drivers purchase more than the state minimum required. Liability coverage limits are usually conveyed with three numbers. For example, liability limits of 20/50/10 indicate that there is coverage of $20,000 in bodily injury coverage per person, $50,000 in bodily injury coverage per accident, and $10,000 in property damage coverage per accident.

- Collision Coverage: In the case that you are in an accident, collision insurance will pay for the repairs that your vehicle requires. Collision coverage is usually the most expensive coverage that you will have to pay for. Insurance companies will declare a vehicle “totaled” or a “write-off” if the replacement would be cheaper than the repairs needed.

- Comprehensive Coverage: This coverage will pay for any damages to an automobile that were not caused by an accident. Qualifying damages include damages arising from carjackings, vandalism, natural disasters, and hitting an animal.

- MedPay, PIP, and No-Fault Coverages: MedPay will pay for the medical expenses of you and anyone else in your car after an accident, regardless of whose fault the accident was. PIP (Personal Injury Protection) and “no-fault” coverages are other forms of medical payment protection. They are broader than MedPay and may be required in certain states. These expanded coverages cover child care and lost wages.

- Uninsured and Underinsured Motorists Coverages: UM (Uninsured Motorists) coverage will pay for injuries you have sustained if you are involved in a hit-and-run by a driver who does not have auto insurance, and is mandatory in many states. UIM (Underinsured Motorists) coverage will pay for you if the driver who hit you creates more damage than their liability insurance can cover.

- Supplemental Coverages: Rental reimbursement is an add-on that will cover rented vehicles in case of damage or theft. Auto replacement coverage ensures that your automobile will be fully repaired for replaced even if the costs are more than its depreciated value. Coverage for towing and labor covers you in case of an auto failure on the road where towing is necessary. These supplemental coverages are usually offered as separate items or included in larger policies.

So before you sign on the dotted line, read the fine print of Automobile Insurance Policy to insure you are getting the necessary coverage to protect yourself. It happens time and time again, when the car owner gets into an accident or fender bender, the coverage they thought they were paying for is not part of their policy which can lead to out-of-pocket expenses.

Get several car insurance quotes

Some key factors when shopping for cheap car insurance is to first make sure you get at least three or four quotes since the price you pay for your car insurance can vary by hundreds of pounds. Finding cheaper insurance rates depends on your previous driving records, to include any type of infraction such as speeding, seat belt and auto accidents. Age, gender and the type of car you are seeking auto insurance coverage on including the age of the vehicle, will clearly be critical factors in determining your annual car premiums.

It is equally important to find a car insurance company that can answer any questions you may have and how quickly they handle claims fairly and efficiently. Once you decide on a quote you are satisfied with, before agreeing to anything check with your state insurance department about the company’s history. Finding out the financial well-being of an insurable institution and the number ratio of consumer complaints, could avoid headaches or any future regrets.

Learn the facts about car insurance

Some other ways of saving money is to ask your insurance broker or agent for a higher deductible. The deductive is the amount of money you pay before the insurance company pays out on your claim. The purpose of requesting a higher deductible can lower your auto rates substantially. When you increase the deductible from £500 to £1,000 you can potentially save you over 40% on your car insurance rates simply because the insurance company will pay out less for your claim. However, if you know that you can not pay out the higher deductible should something happen to your car in the instance of an accident, and then it is best to remain at a lower deductible.

When figuring out the appropriate insurance coverage for your car, take into account the age of the car. This could also influence your auto premium, for example you may want to consider excluding the collision or comprehensive coverage on an older car. It is not cost saving to yourself when you continue to pay full coverage on a car worth less than amount you pay for your insurance coverage. If the car has a market value of £2,000 or less, you would not want to pay more in premiums since you will never get back what you are paying out.

You can easily find out the current market value of your car in order to find out what coverage you will require from a number of valued sources such as banks, auto dealerships, or go online and use the search term, “finding the value of your vehicle”. You can find several reputable services such as, www.kbb.com or www.nadaguides.com where all you have to do is type in the applicable information about your car and instantly you will have the market value. As the saying goes, an educated consumer is a smart consumer, the more you understand prior to purchasing auto insurance, you will be able to make an informed and valued decision.

Automobile insurance is one of those things in the budget that is always going to be there. There are very few places in America that permit you to drive vehicles without insurance and so it behooves each and every one of us to get a better handle on our own auto insurance coverage. The industry is changing a bit because the competition is strong. There are new and creative auto policies on the market today. The trend that has gained the most momentum is the self-insuring concept. Higher deductibles is the weapon that the customer can use to lower rates significantly. Higher deductibles means that the policyholder has decided to take on more of the risk for the automobiles insured. The day of low collision deductibles is all but gone. Lower deductibles no longer warrant the high premiums. There is too much money to be saved with higher deductibles.

Lowering the Rates for Young Drivers

Young drivers on newer vehicles that have a lien holder’s interest will raise the auto rate significantly. The collision and comprehensive rates for drivers under 21 years of age are very high. A young driver on an older vehicle without the collision and comprehensive coverage will lower the rate significantly. There are discounts for young drivers who have completed a qualified drivers training course. Some companies have good student discounts on students with a grade point average of 3.0 or better. When the young driver reaches 21 the rates begin to drop for most companies.

Senior Citizen Discounts – Most companies have discounts for people age 55 and older who are retired or work less than 20 hours a week. There are mature driving courses that can also give the senior citizen a discount.

Multi-Policy Discount – This discount is available when you insure both your auto and home with the same insurance company.

Tort Options – Some companies offer discounts for a limited tort option. Tort is your ability to sue for pain and suffering. Limited tort rates in some states reduce the overall premium of the policy up to 30%. Ask your insurance company about the tort options in your state.

As noted above, federal criminal and civil penalties can be imposed against anyone who sells you a policy that duplicates coverage you already have unless you sign a statement declaring that the first policy will be cancelled, or unless you have Medicaid and the state Medicaid agency pays the premium for your Medigap policy. Penalties may also be imposed for claiming that a policy meets legal standards for federal certification when it does not, and for using the mail for the delivery of advertisements offering for sale a Medigap policy in a state in which it has not received state approval.

Additionally, it is illegal under federal law for an individual or company to misuse the names, letters, symbols or emblems of the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services, the Social Security Administration, or the Health Care Financing Administration. It also is illegal to use the names. letters, symbols or emblems of their various programs.
This law is aimed primarily at mass marketers who use this information on mail solicitations to either imply or claim that the product they are selling whether it be insurance or something else—has either been endorsed or is being sold by the U.S. government. The advertising literature used by these organizations is often designed to look like it came from a government agency.

If you believe you have been the victim of any unlawful sales practices, contact your state insurance department immediately. If you believe that federal law has been violated, you may call 1-800-638-6833. In most cases, however, your state insurance department can offer the most assistance in resolving insurance related problems.

Everyone has to agree to an excess of some kind when getting a car insurance policy – it's the way the system works. Basically it means that if you have an accident and your car needs to be repaired, you will have to pay a set amount towards the bill. If the accident is your fault, you lose the money. If the accident is not your fault, the third party insurer reimburses you for the excess payment. If your car is written off, then your insurance company will deduct your excess from the settlement payment.

Things aren't always that simple however, unfortunately there are a number of drivers on British roads that don't have any insurance, so the question is, what happens with your claim if you have an accident with an uninsured driver?

The 1988 Road Traffic Act, section 143 clearly states that all drivers on the UK roads must have insurance for the vehicle that they are driving. The point of the insurance is that if you have an accident and it is your fault, you have the means to cover the cost of the damage incurred by way of your insurance policy. It's a sad fact that a significant minority of drivers choose not to bother with insurance, disregarding UK law and saving themselves hundreds of pounds a year as a consequence. Someone has to pay for these drivers though, and it's the people that do have insurance that foot the bill!

The Department of Transport estimates that as many as 5% of drivers are not insured on the vehicle which they are driving. Statistics also show that uninsured drivers are more likely to be involved in an accident. It's a growing trend and is proving very difficult to eradicate.

If you have an accident, you are not at fault, and the third party is not insured, then you will be reimbursed by the Motor Insurers' Bureau. Who funds them? The car insurance industry! That's where some of your inflated premiums end up. You will also find that you'll have to pay the agreed excess yourself, there will be no-one able to refund that for you.

Here's the low-down on the basics about ‘excess':

Compulsory Excess – this is the amount that the insurance company regards as the minimum amount that you must pay towards the cost of damages . This is agreed at the outset and depends on a few details you're your age and your driving record. For example, if you are older and have a clean driving record, you could only have to pay a minimum of £50. Those with a more chequered driving history, or those that have not been driving for very long, could feasibly have to agree to pay £500. The average for most drivers is £100 .

Voluntary Excess – this is the amount over and above the minimum ‘compulsory' amount set by the insurer that you are prepared to pay. This is an opportunity to lower your premiums, because if you can agree to a high excess, then the insurance company knows it won't have to pay out as much if you need to make a claim. It's one of the few sure fire ways of saving a few pounds on a car insurance policy, but you may not be offered the choice, it depends on individual insurers.

The garage won't give my repaired car back until I give them a cheque for the excess – is this what usually happens?

This is completely normal, and you will have to pay and then get the money back from the third party insurer. Always give the car a good once over to ensure that the repairs have been satisfactorily completed. You also need to keep the receipt to get the excess back from the insurer, and just in case they dispute the charges, get a copy of the repair schedule so the insurer can see exactly what work was completed on your vehicle.

A catastrophic or major medical insurance plan is a deductible and comparatively cheaper form of health insurance with an element of speculation to it. A deductible is the amount you pay out of your pocket for medical expenses before the insurer pays the balance. For instance, if your deductible is £5,000 and the hospital bill is £12,000, the insurance company will pay only £7,000. The general rule is the higher the deductible, the lower the premium. When you opt for this plan, you're gambling that you will not face major medical problems in the near future.

It is a calculated risk. According to one survey, the annual medical expenses of 90% of the U.S. population are less than £2000; for 73%of the population, it is below £500.

Two groups that normally opt for catastrophic health insurance are young people in their twenties who are confident of their health condition, and older men between fifty and sixty-five who are still waiting for Medicare eligibility.

Catastrophic health insurance coverage is only meant to protect against major hospital charges and not routine medical expenses. It normally does not cover maternity care, doctor’s visits and prescription drugs. Certain pre-existing medical conditions and cases involving mental health and substance abuse are usually excluded from the coverage. A catastrophic health insurance policy can be purchased as an individual plan or as part of a group plan. In fact, there appears to be a trend among employers to encourage employees to opt for this type of medical cover. The maximum lifetime limit could be as high as £3 million.

Rates vary according to where you live and your age. In certain states, the saving on premiums could be two-thirds. For example, a 21 year old, non-smoking female may pay as little as £30 per month as a premium.

It is advisable to seek professional guidance from insurance companies andor agents and compare quotes before making a decision.

Nursing home and long-term care insurance are available to cover custodial care in a nursing home. Some of these policies also cover care in the home, and others are available to pay for care in a skilled nursing facility (SNF) after your Medicare benefits run out (see page 3 for an explanation of the Medicare benefit for skilled nursing facility care).

If you are in the market for nursing home or longterm care insurance, be sure you know which types of nursing homes and services are covered by the different policies available. And if you buy a policy, make sure it does not duplicate skilled nursing facility (SNF) coverage provided by any Medigap policy, managed care plan, or other coverage you have.
It is important to remember that custodial care (the type of care most persons in nursing homes require) is not covered by Medicare or most Medigap policies. The only care of this nature that Medicare covers is skilled nursing care or skilled rehabilitation care that is provided in a Medicare-certified skilled nursing facility.

For more information about long-term care insurance, request a copy of A Shopper’s Guide to Long-Term Care Insurance from either your state insurance department or the National Association of Insurance Commissioners, 120 W. 12th Street, Suite 1100, Kansas City, MO 64 105-1925. Any unexpected expenses during your travel abroad need to be preplanned well in advance. Travel insurance is indispensable when you are traveling to a foreign country, sometimes you are on your own and any unforeseen incidents such as accidents or illnesses will be borne by you wholly. With Travel insurance your medical expenses or any other unforeseen expenses will be covered.

It’s basically an agreement between a traveller and an insurance company by which an insurance company is obliged to cover all the losses that you may incur during the trip abroad. An insured person pays the premium either in single or multiple installments.

Which is the right time to get the travel insurance?

For frequent travelers there are more broad permanent travel insurances that protect you during all your trips that meet certain requirements. Such online travel insurance can be purchased directly from insurance companies but also from travel agents or travel companies.

What happens in case of pre-existing medical conditions?

Anyone with a serious pre-existing medical condition would find it tricky to attain a travel insurance. However, it’s not impossible, travel insurance companies exclude all claims related to pre-existing medical conditions. Some insurers will cover for pre-existing conditions without any additional premium. Other travel insurance companies may have a medical screening system, usually carried out over the telephone or online. You are asked a series of questions in order to assess the risk involved and to determine whether you can be given insurance, in such case you may have to pay an additional premium to cover the risk of pre-existing condition, or exclude any claims relating to risk.

What all am I covered for in such insurance?

The most common risks that are covered by travel insurance are flight delays, cancellations, limitations. Theft of luggage, delay or loss of personal possessions up to a certain amount when undeclared and up to any amount when declared and included in the policy is covered under such travel insurance. It will also cover for medical expenses whether due to illness or accident. This includes transportation to and from hospitals and clinics, physicians' fees, medications, etc.

In case of death, all funeral expenses, benefits of accidental death, will be covered by the insurance. Legal coverage such as legal fees, personal liability for accidents in case you are responsible for the accident and have to bear the injured person’s medical expense. Moreover, there are other risks for which insurance can be purchased jointly or separately from a regular travel insurance contract.

If you buy a travel package to a high risk destination, chances are that the policy will already contain those clauses, the same is applicable if you hire all the services needed to perform the high risk activities from the same agent. However, you should carefully read the policy before committing to anything and make sure that you are sufficiently protected.

There are many different types of Health insurance plans out there. Picking the right one for yourself can be troublesome in the beginning, especially if you don’t know what you are looking for. You might have trouble deciding which one would be better for you.

Health insurance is divided into two large categories—indemnity and managed care plans. Indemnity plans, also commonly called reimbursement plans, will reimburse your medical expenses up to a certain limit. Under the Reimbursement plan, the insurer pays a percentage of the total charges, regardless of how much the charges are. With the indemnity plan, the insurer will pay a specified amount every day for a specified number of days. The amount reimbursed does not rely on the cost of medical care, but what you are reimbursed will never exceed your expenses.

The other popular type of health insurance plans is managed care plans. The three types of policies categorized as managed care plans are HMOs, POSs, and PPOs. This type of insurance is more popular than the indemnity plan, as they offer more flexibility. With these types of options you either pay a monthly fee no matter how many times you see a doctor, or pay a co-payment but no monthly fee. With managed care plans, you are given options of care. The plan you choose and the amount of money you wish to pay determines how big of a network of doctors and specialists you can see and still be covered under the plan. Some managed car plans (most often PPOs) offer sponsorship programs from a network of hospitals and medical services. You can often get this kind of plan through your employer.

Managed healthcare plans are better for the average person due to the fact that they are more cost effective. While indemnity plans may give you a lot more freedom in cost, you will have to use the healthcare provider that the insurer chooses. If you have a specific disability, this can present itself as a problem. In the long run, a managed care plan will save you money, especially if emergencies arise when you are out of town. These types of plans also are more flexible in policy. Before you purchase any kind of health insurance, be sure to research the many options available for you and your family to ensure you receive the best coverage possible for the lowest monthly premium or deductible.

When it comes to health insurance, we all seem to be paying high premiums. The cost of healthcare has risen and it is reflected in the quotes we receive. However, if you are considered obese, your health insurance premiums may be significantly higher or some health insurance companies may simply deny you coverage. If you were to lose weight, however, you could find a health care insurance much cheaper and have more options.

The fact is health insurance companies have different policies regarding obesity. When an applicant for health insurance falls out of the normal weight standards, they may be either denied health insurance coverage or their premiums will be raised. Many insurance companies may even require an applicant to get a pre-approval physical before they accept the applicant for coverage. The fact is obesity is costly to the insurance companies and they apply very strict standards for their coverage in relation to the weight of the applicants.

Due to the fact that treating the obese is very costly, the health insurance premiums have skyrocketed over the past few years. With obesity comes many other diseases such as cardiovascular disease, high blood pressure, and diabetes. Treatment for these disorders are costly and the insurance companies are paying. This is the reason for their strict weight standards. Just one individual who is obese can cost an insurance company thousands of dollars each year. Many individuals get health insurance coverage from their employers. Because the insurance premiums have risen so much over the past few years, many employers, especially small businesses, can not afford to offer coverage for their employees.

The fact is when someone is obese, they will generally have health problems and are often having tests done, as well as being on medication. This, of course, is an expense that could be prevented if the person lost weight. Research has proven that the obese are inundated with more health problems than thinner people. However, this does not stop individuals from gaining weight.

More and more people are gaining weight and falling into the category of being obese and this includes children, as well. According to a recent study conducted by The Thompson Corporation, in 2004, as many as 16 percent of the children in the United States could be diagnosed with obesity. The healthcare costs for children who were treated for obesity were astronomical. The cost for those children who were covered by Medicaid were approximately $6,700 annually for each child and those with private insurance paid out approximately $3,700 per obese child.

While obesity is only partly responsible for the rising cost of health insurance, it does place a burden on society, as well as the patients themselves. However, the continuing rise of health insurance will not end and neither will obesity. If an obese individual could lose the weight, they would find their health insurance premiums would be much lower and they would have a much easier time gaining access to health insurance coverage.

What Are The Different Types Of Boat Insurance Available?

When shopping for boat insurance, you may be surprised to find that there are different types of boat insurance policies available. Many insurance companies will only offer one standard watercraft liability coverage policy, while others will offer optional coverage that you can purchase. In fact, if you have financed your boat, your lender may require you to carry specific optional coverage. There are several different types of coverage that you can add to your policy.

The standard insurance is the watercraft liability insurance coverage which is required by many states. This insurance will cover you in the event that damage is caused to another person or another person's property by actions taken with your boat – whether it is during transport or on the water. Again, many states now require this liability coverage, and each state has its own requirements as to how much liability coverage you need to have. Check with your insurance agent to find out what you are required to have.

Watercraft medical payments coverage may also be required in your state. This coverage pays the medical expenses, up to a specific amount, for you and any occupant of your boat which results from a covered accident. Even if this insurance is not required, you should definitely consider it. Medical expenses are quite high. If you think that you cannot afford this coverage, think about whether or not you could afford the medical bills you will have in the event of an accident without the coverage.

Wreck removal and pollution coverage should also be strongly considered. By law, if your vessel is wrecked or sinks, you will be required to remove it. If oil or gas leaks into the lake, river, or ocean, you will be fined – just like the big oil companies are fined when they have spills in the ocean! These fines, as well as the wreckage removal and spill cleanup can be quite expensive without this coverage. Don't make the mistake of thinking that something like this won't happen to you!

You should insure yourself against uninsured watercrafts as well. This works just like uninsured motorist insurance when you purchase coverage for your automobiles. If someone who does not have insurance – or adequate coverage – collides with your boat on the water, your insurance will pay for the replacement of your boat, or for the needed repairs.

Towing and assistance coverage should also be strongly considered. Getting towed back to shore often costs more than having a car towed to a garage! Especially if you are out in the middle of the ocean! You should also ask about coverage to recover your boat and protect it from further damage after a mechanical failure or an accident. These costs do indeed add up. Again, don't make the mistake of thinking that nothing bad will happen, and don't make the mistake of thinking that you cannot afford the coverage. If you can't afford the coverage, you certainly won't be able to afford these expenses!

Most insurance policies should cover your boat, the motor, and the trailer used to transport the boat. Liability coverage isn't the only type of coverage that you need in most cases. You should make sure that you protect your boat, just as you protect your automobiles with coverage that includes theft and vandalism, as well as losses caused by storms, fire, sinking, capsizing, stranding, collision, and even explosions. Talk with your insurance agent to find out what type of insurance is required by your state and what type of coverage they offer. Also talk with your boat dealer and lender to find out what type of coverage you are required to have as well.

Of course, you need to check with an accountant or lawyer for specific information, but in this article, you'll learn what small business insurance has worked for our computer consultants and customers in the past.

What Type of Small Business Insurance Do You Need?

You should definitely have both a general liability as well as a professional liability policy for your services. That professional liability should have the errors and omissions insurance rider folded into it as part of your small business insurance coverage.

How Much Will It Cost You?

This insurance will range in cost, but $3500 is about average. Typically, small business insurance companies will base your price on your size, in terms of employees, the sales volume you’re doing, and how they characterize you by risks.

Take time to carefully explain and look at the categories with your agent before they lump you into something that you’re not. A lot of times they might classify you into software developers which could be a very different risk category than network installers or resellers.

Do Your Subcontractors Need Small Business Insurance?

Yes, each of your subcontractors should definitely have general and professional liability and errors and omissions insurance. You should not be covering them. Otherwise what you’re doing is probably providing benefits that are more like what you would do for an employee as opposed to a contractor.

What's The Next Step With Your Small Business Insurance?

Talk to your attorney and talk to your insurance agent. If you have an insurance agent that takes care of your property and contents insurance needs, you should definitely sit down and talk with them. You might want to ask this question of your accountant also because they have a relatively similar business model in your same area.

If you are like me, it’s easy to get fed up with constantly paying insurance premiums. Writing a monthly check for car insurance alone will drive you crazy. Not to mention the direct withdrawals from your paycheck for health insurance and the hit to your mortgage for home owners insurance and you have a lot of money going out the window to pay for disasters that might not even happen.

But if those disasters do happen, you will be very glad you had insurance. But there is one big life event that is coming that you want to do all you can to prepare for financially and that is old age and retirement. While there is no “old age insurance”, you will find as you do your retirement planning that there are some very valuable insurance policies that are absolutely critical to a retirement life that is enjoyable, safe and prepared for.

We may or may not think of life insurance as part of retirement planning. After all, the benefits of life insurance, at least on the surface are for those who survive you after your death which doesn’t do you a lot of good when you are living and breathing. But you can invest in life insurance that also serves as a long term investment as well. These policies which are sometimes called “whole life” allow the funds you put in to be invested and to build a cash value that you can cash in on when you retire.

So you may want to carry $100,000 insurance when you are in the working world, paying a mortgage and trying to get the kids through college. But if you can then hit retirement, cash in on the investment value of that insurance and spend your golden years with just enough insurance to cover some protection for your spouse and funeral expenses, that is a better way to organize your insurance programs.

Another layer of insurance that a lot of people are taking advantage of is Medicare supplement insurance. Medicare is a great program that benefits a lot of people. But Medicare can only go so far. Those corny commercials for Medicare supplement insurance are goofy but they are on target that you need to have another safety net in the event you find yourself needing more extensive medical coverage than Medicare can provide. If you took the time to set up this kind of insurance early in your retirement planning, it will pay you big time when the need is there during your golden years.

A level of insurance that can be one of the biggest blessings if you become ill in your elderly years is in home health care insurance. Many times illnesses that you endure due to old age are not the kind of thing you would want to get through in an expensive hospital room. You will recover more quickly in your home but you still need someone to make sure you get your medications, take care of the little life details that you cannot tend to when you are poorly and be there if you take a turn for the worst.

This is where the care of an in home nursing service can be so valuable. This insurance can enable you to have care with you right in your home which will give you the care you need and take a lot of worry and work off of your family. And since all senior citizens need medical care at some point in their retirement life, in home health care insurance is a must.

By setting up these different specialized insurance policies early enough in your working life, you can get some value into them when the time comes for you to retire. Then you can you enter retirement with confidence knowing you have policies with reliable insurance providers to take care of the needs that you expect to come up during your golden years.

Car accidents can happen at any time to anyone. They can be devastating and cause unnecessary stress to everyone involved. If you are injured in a car accident the last thing you will need at that time is a problem with your medical insurance coverage. Insurance can be a tricky subject. Sometimes it is hard to determine what is covered under certain policies and what is not. That is why it is a very good idea to invest in an auto insurance policy that includes medical coverage. Medical coverage on an auto insurance policy ensures that you will be covered for any injury resulting from a car accident. Most auto insurance policies that include medical coverage also cover injuries sustained from accidents you may be involved in as a pedestrian.

Most auto insurance policies that include medical coverage in the event of car accidents cover all passengers in your vehicle at the time of the accident. If you are involved in a car accident and have two or three passengers in your car at the time, all the medical expenses of yourself and your passengers will be covered by your auto insurance policy. It does not matter if the car accident is your fault or the fault of another driver, if you are involved in any type of accident where you have medical expenses due to the accident, those expenses will be covered. Medical expenses can be considerably expensive since they may include everything from ambulance transportation to x-rays to surgery to an extended hospital stay. No matter what your injuries may be you can rest assured that you will not have to worry about them at the time of the accident. In addition, medical coverage can cover any additional expenses after your initial injuries have been treated. If you require long term care following the accident, medical coverage can help with the financial expense of long term care. If you are left unable to care for your children for a period of time following the accident and must hire child care support, certain auto insurance policies that offer medical coverage can assist in child care finances due to injuries from an accident as well.

If you are not insured at the time of an accident, you will be left relying on other types of insurance. If you have health insurance you need to figure out what and how much is covered under your policy. Some health insurance policies only cover portions of medical expenses during major accidents where expenses can run high. Oftentimes with health insurance, the insurance holder will also need to pay a co-pay when getting professional medical help. You may want to look into the price of emergency room co-pays, as they are often more than co-pays to a regular doctor’s office. If you do not have health insurance then considering auto insurance that includes medical coverage is a must. Car accidents are completely unpredictable. You and your family could be involved in a car accident at any time. Just because you drive safely does not mean someone else on the road will be driving safely. Even if the accident is not your fault, you will still face mountainous medical bills. Trying to pay them without any type of insurance will be an extremely difficult task that you do not want to be faced with.

Another medical coverage option that many auto insurance policies offer is personal injury protection. This option of medical coverage in the form of personal injury protection is not offered in every state but if you live in a state where it is offered it may be a smart choice for you. The difference between regular medical coverage in an auto insurance policy and personal injury protection coverage is that only those people specified to be covered in the policy will be covered in the event of an accident. Instead of having any passenger in your vehicle being covered by your insurance, only those people who you have specified in your policy and who are in your car at the time of the car accident will have their medical expenses covered by your insurance. In some cases people do not want those who are not close family members being covered by their insurance. If this is the case then you may want to opt for personal injury protection, as it allows you to determine which individuals would be covered by your insurance policy in the event of a car accident.

Homeowners Insurance is supposed to protect us in case of disasters. That is what we have come to expect from our homeowners insurance over the years. But what if the disaster is the costliest in U.S. History? What if your insurance agent's home and office were destroyed in the disaster also?

That is what happened to many customers and homeowners insurance agents and companies after Katrina hit the Gulf coast. Many agents' homes, offices and insurance Companies' claims centers were in the same situation as their clients due to the storms. So what did they do? They set up “office” in tents and mobile trailers. Then Hurricane Rita blew away these temporary offices and the agents and companies set them up again. These temporary shelters acted as a communications center for all people in the surrounding areas. Local people would come by to ask questions, meet with their claims adjustors and just catch up on the news with their neighbors. Extreme circumstances dictated unconventional responses: some agents even filed claims for their clients without even talking to the clients just so they could get the claim “in the queue.” Allstate allowed customers to submit claims through any agent in the country and set up a priority line to assist. They sent email to agents in the areas surrounding the disaster areas to act as messengers by “word of mouth” to their fellow agents in the effected areas. The larger companies such as State Farm & Allstate that service claims for the national flood Insurance Program even used satellite imagery to determine damage in some neighborhoods that were entirely flooded.

Lessons Learned: Those of us not effected by these disasters can learn a few lessons about coping with future disasters from the thousands of policyholders that are still waiting to get their claims paid. As soon as possible, take steps to prevent further damage to your home if possible: such as covering the roof with a tarp if possible. You can hire a contractor if you can find one, as that would be safer for most of us than climbing on our roofs. Hold off making any repairs until you see or talk to an adjuster first. Plus, keep your receipts, as you'll need them to prove expenses that can be re-imbursed later.

What Does Homeowners Insurance Cover?

You can generally expect your homeowners insurance to help pay for additional living expenses for up to 12-24 months while your home is being repaired. But, homeowners insurance usually pays only after they verify you have a legitimate claim. After Katrina, many insurers made an exception, automatically distributing enough to cover two weeks' worth of additional living expense to anyone in an area subject to mandatory evacuation. Some companies even gave small advances on contents under the personal property part of their homeowners insurance policies.

If you have to wait to get your check, it helps to have cash that is easily accessible in a bank account or money market fund. Stashing cash at home isn't a great idea because if your home burns down and you weren't able to get to your cash, most homeowners insurance policies only cover £100-£200 in cash whether it is stolen or burned up in a fire. Your goal should be to have an emergency fund available to take care of your family for 2-4 weeks (minimum)if possible. In a disaster it might be hard to even find a local bank to get cash. Debitcredit cards with a statewide or national bank would perhaps be better.

Your biggest problem in getting your claim handled may be in either not having the proper homeowners insurance coverage or not having enough coverage. Most good homeowners insurance policies today cover up to 120% of your dwelling coverage limit. It is important that you review the dwelling limit with your agent every couple of year's at a minimum. Homeowners insurance policies do not cover Flooding, but you should again see your agent for this coverage.

If your homeowners insurance falls short, you may qualify for money from the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) or a disaster-assistance loan from the Small Business Administration (SBA). Homeowners can borrow up to £200,000 for rebuilding and £40,000 to replace personal property at very low interest rates for up to 30 years.
